Moto America Result From New Jersey Motorsports Park

On Sunday at New Jersey Motorsports Park, four-time and defending Superbike Champion Josh Hayes did everything he could to add a fifth title to his resume. He won both races to finish with 10 this season and a total of 57 in his storybook career. His Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha teammate Cameron Beaubier won 8 races this season, and had better finishes than Josh in the races in which he didn’t win. And that made all the difference for Cameron, who is MotoAmerica’s first Superbike Champion.

“I’m super-proud to win both races today,” Josh said. “This was one of the hardest races I’ve ever had here, and I gave it all I had. Congratulations to Cam. My bad days were just a little worse than his bad days this season and, over the course of 9 rounds and 18 races, those are the things that cost you the Championship. Cam rode well all year long, and I’m proud of what he accomplished. If someone other than me is going to win the Championship, I’m glad it’s my teammate.”

Josh Day put his #00 Yamaha YZF-R1 Superstock 1000 bike at the pointy end of the field in both of Sunday’s races, and even diced with 2015 MotoAmerica Superbike Champion Cameron Beaubier at one point in Race 2.

In Race 1, Josh didn’t get as good of a start as he would have liked, but he used the prodigious power of his bright-gold R1 to work himself up to third, despite having to deal with a red flag due to a fallen rider and a second red flag due to rain.

Josh got a much better start in Race 2 where he found himself among the more-powerful Superbikes, and he definitely gave race winner and 2015 MotoAmerica Superstock 1000 Champion Jake Gagne a good battle. Josh finished third in race 2.

Cameron Petersen finished 2nd on his Road Race Factory R6 on Supersport Race 1 and earned his first podium in Moto America series.
